Article #118: NS 744 w/ Tennessee Alabama & Georgia HU AC44C6M #4851 Catawba, NC (February 27, 2026)
In this new article, we will be taking a look at NS 744 heading westbound through Catawba, NC with the Tennessee Alabama & Georgia heritage unit 4851 on the lead. The trailing locomotive was AC44C6M 4256.
744 originates in Williamson, West Virgina and terminates at Plant Marshall near Catawba at Terrell, NC. It goes through Roanoke, VA and then goes through towns like Greensboro, Thomasville and Lexington, NC on the Crescent Corridor. At Salisbury, NC, it makes a turn westbound onto the Asheville District S-Line running up to Catawba for thirty-nine miles. Once the train gets to Catawba, the train stops to allow the crew to switch sides of the train. They head the opposite direction to head into the plant.
