Article #128: Atlantic Coast Line Whopper Hopper NC Transportation Museum (May 16, 2026)

 

In this new article, we will be taking a look at this Atlantic Coast Line whopper hopper on display at the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer back on May 16, 2026.

This freight car was crafted from stainless steel, as well as the feature of six wheel trucks and a 4-section internal design. That design allowed these kinds of cars to haul various commodities like phosphate, sugar, grain and fertilizer to name a few. 

In 2001, this car was purchased by the NCDOT Rail Division from a scrapper in Georgia.
