In this new article we will be taking a look at Amtrak 74 heading northbound through Salisbury, NC this past Saturday on February 14, 2026.

This train originates in Charlotte, NC around 2pm and arrives at Salisbury, NC around 3 pm. It then terminates in Raliegh, NC after 5:30 pm.

The lead locomotive was #1797 which is the City of Asheville locomotive. It was built in 1998 and made its Piedmont debut in February of 1999.

Fr a long period of time, this locomotive was out of service due to major engine repairs. This had the locomotive out of service. The generators were upgraded, as well as the brake fuse being fixed.

I made its return to the Piedmont back in 2012. It is currently the oldest locomotive on the roster.
