Article #102: NS P95 w/ GP60 7100 & GP38-2 5276 Downtown Conover, NC (March 11, 2017)

In this new article, we will be taking a look at NS P95 westbound through Downtown Conover, NC back in March of 2017.

The two locomotives on the train were GP60 7100 and GP38-2 5276. These two locomotive types have been very common on the S-Line locals over the years.

The GP60's were built by EMD in the late 1980's as they are known for having 3,800 horsepower. They were one of EMD's first third generation diesels. They were also the last four axle diesels produced by EMD.

The former Conrail GP38-2's were built in the early 1970's for Penn Central and later were added to the Conrail fleet of locomotives in 1976. They ran on Conrail for over twenty years. They were added to Norfolk Southern in 1999 when the Conrail split took place.

P95 runs daily between Oyama Yard in Hickory, NC and Claremont, NC. Sometimes it will go as far as Catawba, NC. Back when this train was seen, the local ran in the morning and early afternoon.
