Article #100: NS 135 w/ Original Norfolk Southern Heritage Unit ES44AC 8114 West Oyama Yard Hickory, NC (March 19, 2020)
In our 100th article, we will be taking a look at NS 135 westbound by the west end of Oyama Yard in Hickory, NC with the Original Norfolk Southern heritage unit #8114 leading.
The train had three units total on this day, 8114, AC44C6M 4143 and SD70ACe 1001. The train stopped at Oyama to do some switching by way of dropping off a cut of cars for the local trains.
This heritage unit is in the paint scheme the railroad had from the 1950's to the 1970's. This paint scheme could be found on the AS4-16's to give one example.
This was shortly before the through trains were eliminated from the Asheville District S-Line. 135 at this time was going through Hickory in the early evening hours.
Here is a side view of 8114.
