Article #84: Amtrak 76 w/ F59PH 1984 Salisbury Depot, NC (May 17, 2025)

In this new article we are taking a look at Amtrak 76 stopped at the Salisbury depot back on May 17, 2025. This train is one of the Piedmont trains that run daily between Raleigh, NC and Charlotte, NC.

The lead locomotive this day was NCDOT F59PH 1984 along fellow F59PH 1869 on the rear. All of the Piedmont trains run with one locomotive on the lead and one on the rear. 1984 made its first run on these trains back in June of 2017. It was the first locomotive to enter service on these trains since 2012.

The majority of the F59PH locomotives started out on GO Transit in Canada. They were retired by GO Transit in the early 2000's. Some of them were rebuilt into cab control units (CCU's) which do not include prime movers.

Salisbury is a daily stop for all of these trains. This station was built in 1908 by the Southern Railway.
